NGCF accepting nominations for philanthropy awards

Nominations accepted through Aug. 15

(GAINESVILLE, Ga.) – The North Georgia Community Foundation (NGCF) is now accepting nominations for its 2017 Philanthropy Awards which include the Woodrow Stewart Leadership in Philanthropy Award and the Gus Whalen Young Philanthropist AwardWoodrow Stewart Leadership in Philanthropy Award. Deserving individuals for these awards may be nominated through Aug. 15. The winners of both awards will be honored at NGCF’s Celebration of Community event Oct. 12.

The Woody Stewart Leadership in Philanthropy Award recognizes individuals who provide leadership in support of philanthropic causes and who motivate others to take leadership roles with nonprofit organizations and community projects. Nominees for the Gus Whalen Young Philanthropist Award should be between the ages of 18 and 40 and show commitment to enhancing the quality of life in our region through volunteer service.

Any individual or organization may nominate a philanthropist for the distinguished awards; however, the Community Foundation is encouraging nonprofit organizations to nominate their supporters and volunteers by offering a special incentive to the nonprofit organizations nominating the winning individuals. The nonprofit nominating the winners of the philanthropy awards will receive a $500 grant in the recipient’s honor, two tickets to the Celebration of Community dinner, and special recognition at the event.

“We are fortunate to live in an area where so many generous people work passionately to change the community for the better,” NGCF President/CEO Michelle Prater said. “And, we encourage anyone who knows one of these deserving individuals to submit a nomination as these awards allow the Community Foundation to honor our hometown heroes for the difference they are making.”

Nominees for either award must live in the Community Foundation’s 15-county service area which includes Banks, Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Jackson, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union and White counties.
